-Hydroxy--methyl butyrate (HMB) has been shown to counteract many negative effects of intensive animal production methods, resulting in increased growth and protection against diseases.  The current study shows that HMB has the potential to improve immunocompetence cell activity in fish through increased cell proliferation and functioning.
